Explore The ‘I Can Do It’ Books In The Caribu App To Support Young Kids Through Early Childhood Milestones

By Beth S. Pollak

With so much focus on back-to-school this fall, it’s important for parents to remember that many kids might have other milestones on their mind! Young kids face many daily challenges in early childhood, and reading books that support them as they take on new tasks can open discussions and relieve anxiety. To help encourage them in their sweet, coming-of-age achievements, try the new I Can Do It books, featured in the Caribu app.

The books, published by Cottage Door Press, tell stories that explore situations relevant to early childhood, like getting a “big” bed, getting comfortable using the potty, going to the doctor, and learning table manners. Each of the books features colorful animals and illustrations that will grab kids’ attention and encourage them to take a positive approach to new experiences. In addition, the stories describe the main characters’ feelings, which can help adults launch discussions with kids about emotions and changes in their lives. Choose one (or more!) of the books to read in your next Caribu video-call, and share some meaningful conversations about growing up.

In There’s A Doctor For You, read about different types of medical professionals kids might encounter for check-ups, injuries, and illnesses. Visit the pediatrician, the dentist, the eye doctor, and other clinics as you turn the pages of this bright book. Rhyme along with the animals in the waiting room to help diffuse any anxiety about doctors’ visits.

The Peas Say Please is an entertaining introduction to table manners for kids who have graduated from their high chairs. Pay attention as the peas, napkins, cups, and food items help a little bunny learn how to say “Please” and “Thank You,” and use some of the table utensils. Watch out for spills!

In Big Bed For Little Bear, Baby Bear has outgrown the little crib that Mama and Daddy Bear gave him as a tiny cub, so they go shopping for a bed with more room! Despite some initial anxiety, Baby Bear is excited to realize that a big bed means more space for cuddles and stories. This is a great book to read with little ones at bedtime, particularly as they graduate to larger beds!

Everybody Potties is a bright story that is fun and relatable for kids who are learning to toilet train. The friendly animals in the book discuss how it feels when it’s time to use the bathroom, and what to do when you get there! With rhymes and smiles, the book reminds kids that everyone uses the potty, and encourages them to take on this new challenge.

Binkie Not For Sale tells the story of a child who loves their binkie blanket and does not want to let it go! When the family has a yard sale, the child tells everyone that binkie isn’t available for purchase. This is a fun read for any child that values their personal blanket.

Try the I Can Do It! books to connect with the children in your family in your next virtual playdate! Schedule a Caribu Call to read these cheery books together and share some of the special moments of childhood. Discuss what the kids are experiencing, and re-visit some of your own memories. You can find them in the ‘New and Notable’ and the ‘Cottage Door Press’ categories of the Caribu app.
