Put on your costumes and fasten your capes! This week is Superhero week at #CampCaribu, and we’re highlighting some of our favorite comic book friends in the Caribu app. From everyday heroes to magical mutants, the week will feature fun and friendly characters on exciting missions. Plan your Caribu Calls to set up virtual playdates, and read these superhero stories together with friends and family. If you don’t yet have the Caribu app, download it today so you can connect with your loved ones and enjoy all of the action!
Start the week off on Monday with DC Super Hero Girls! If you haven’t encountered them yet, the DC Super Hero Girls are teenage versions of some famous DC stars. Meet teenage Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Zatanna, Green Lantern, and Bumblebee as they time travel to the dinosaur era, and journey to outer space! In Past Times At Super Hero High, watch out for some treacherous T-Rex dinosaurs and slippery characters, like Harley Quinn! In Spaced Out, the girls are joined by a few new faces: Big Barda, Star Sapphire, Catwoman, and Supergirl’s dog, Krypto! Read about their space mission across the galaxy to the planet of Oa, home of Green Lantern. You’ll enjoy the stories of how the DC Super Hero Girls use teamwork, cooperation, and positive attitudes to find solutions to all of the challenges they encounter on their travels.
This week you can also get to know DC’s Teen Titans in Teen Titans Go to Camp. These tricky teens can get into some mischievous adventures! Join Robin, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg as they pack their bags and head off to summer camp! Once they arrive, they encounter some creepy characters and sticky situations. Plan a Caribu video-call with friends and relatives so you can read about all of the fun and games.
If you’d like to revisit some of your favorite cartoon detectives, check out the Scooby-Doo Team-Up series. Scooby is back on the case with Fred, Velma, Shaggy, and the gang, and they team up with other DC super heroes to solve some spooky mysteries! With help from Batman, Ace the Bathound, and the Teen Titans, they take on villains like scarecrows, sneaky ghosts, and even a giant tarantula. Don’t miss this chance to share some Scooby nostalgia in a video-call with your (grand)children.
For additional DC Kids characters and comics, explore the DC category in Caribu’s in-app library. You’ll find more DC Super Hero Girls, Teen Titans and Scooby-Doo Team-Up, plus previews of other graphic novels like Zantana and the House of Secrets, Superman of Smallville, and Diana Princess of the Amazons. There are also some classic Looney Tunes stories, with all of your favorite characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Sylvester the Cat, Road Runner, and Wile E. Coyote.
Coloring Pages: Superhero week will include some extra special coloring pages from the Cartoon Network, with DC Super Hero Girls, Craig Of The Creek, The Amazing World Of Gumball, The Powderpuff Girls, and We Bare Bears. There are also Sesame Street activities and drawing pages that break down what it means to “Stand Like a Superhero” and celebrate superstars in your life. Color in some heroic images of Grover, Fozzy, Big Bird, and Elmo in a virtual playdate with a friend or relative! Share your drawings to social media to be entered into this week’s raffle (see more below). Use the hashtag #CampCaribu and tag @caribu.
Video Read Aloud: Look in the Caribu app under ‘Videos’ for Kickin’ It With Kenzie: What’s Meant For Me Will Be. Join kid actress and author Makenzie Lee-Foster in an engaging read aloud of her new book! Read along as Kenzie tries out different activities to see what type of career might be a good fit for her. While Kenzie is not a magical superhero, she is a strong and inspiring role model for kids. Learn helpful lessons and valuable messages from this colorful picture book.
A Multilingual Hero: This week enjoy a hero in multiple languages with La Petite Pétra: El Héroe De La Pequeña Petra/Little Petra’s Hero by Krystel Armand Kanzki. In this story, Petra describes her brother’s special superhero qualities and appreciates the ways that he supports her. The book is bilingual in Spanish/English, and a French edition is also available in the Caribu Library (Le Héros de La Petite Petra). Schedule a Caribu video-call and read along with the language(s) you choose! The book provides opportunities to practice your vocabulary and grammar in different languages, with guides and word practice at the beginning and end of the story.
World Premier: This Thursday marks the release of Jesse Byrd Jr.’s new book Dream Catcher. Read it in the Caribu app before it hits the stores! This bright picture book is set in Thailand and was created in partnership with a Thai toymaker and illustrator. It is Book One of a series that asks the question, ‘What would it look like if dream catcher nets were magical beings who actively protected you from bad dreams?’ Schedule a Caribu Call to read it with family when it comes out on Thursday.
Weekly Prize: At the end of this week, #CampCaribu will raffle a signed copy of Dream Catcher. To be entered into the drawing, users must read, read, read as many books as possible in the category! You can also be entered into the drawing if you post to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) about #CampCaribu in one of the following ways:
